Barcelona 4.0 and the new role of PR in making strategic decisions
Barcelona Principles 4.0 bring a strategic turn in the measurement of public relations, putting in the foreground what really has value - the impact of communication on business goals. This latest version of the international framework developed by the AMEC organization was presented at their summit in Vienna and brings improvements in the practical application of measuring success in communication.

The Barcelona Principles 4.0 shift the focus from just counting posts to the real impact of communication – how it changes the awareness, attitudes, trust, and behavior of target groups. Instead of a quantitative approach, the emphasis is on the quality of measurement and the selection of metrics that are strategically relevant. Measurement cannot be isolated, but must be linked to the broader goals of the organization, making PR a tool that contributes to business results. Planning and evaluation are inseparable processes - metrics are defined from the very beginning and monitored during the entire implementation of the activity. In addition, it is important to ensure transparency of methods and ethical handling of data at all stages of evaluation.

The new version of the principles also comes with a manual and a visual guide to help put each of the seven principles into practice. The focus is on continuous learning and improvement – measurement is no longer just a tool for reporting, but also for strategic management and building trust.
