Borders and feelings: which part of Europe do we live in?
The part of Europe that lies between the borders of Germany and the former Soviet Union is usually referred to as Central Europe - regardless of whether the inhabitants of the area feel that way. When we talk about regions, what geopolitical maps show is often not in accordance with the feelings of belonging among a certain part of the population, due to a number of factors, as shown by the research results of the CEPER company from Austria.

Respondents from ten European countries were asked which part of Europe their countries belong to. The answers offered were: Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Central Europe, and the Balkans. The majority of respondents from six countries agreed that Central Europe is their home region: 77% of Austrians, 68% of Czechs, 65% of Slovaks, 63% of Poles, 55% of Hungarians, and 52% of Slovenians.
