INA begins a key testing phase of the new facility at the Rijeka Oil Refinery

After the completion of construction of the new Heavy Residue Processing Unit and the associated infrastructure at the Rijeka Oil Refinery, and following the successful completion of the cold testing phase using air, INA has entered a new and crucial stage – functional testing of the facility. This phase involves testing the unit with process fluids and represents the final verification of equipment functionality prior to start-up. With this step, the upgrade project of the Rijeka refinery complex enters its final phase, preceding the commissioning of the entire facility for trial operation, which is expected in March.
Functional testing marks the stage in which process fluids are gradually introduced into a system that has previously undergone cold testing. This begins with utility media such as steam, water, and fuel gas, followed by petroleum products themselves, under strict control of pressure, temperature, and safety conditions. During this phase, the functionality of equipment under real operating conditions is verified, along with the integration of automation and safety systems and overall process stability, ahead of trial operation in a commercial mode. This testing phase is expected to last several weeks, after which the facility will enter trial operation and gradually ramp up capacity to achieve full operational readiness.
