Leadership in PR and Marketing: How to fulfill the key needs of employees?
04/23/2025 • Profession news
Marketing, PR, and advertising are industries that are primarily young, not only in terms of constant innovation and change, but also when we look at who works in them. According to the Marketing Week Career and Salary Survey 2024, as many as 70% of marketers are between the ages of 26 and 45, while 40% are between the ages of 26 and 35. This means that teams in these industries are full of young professionals who have specific expectations of their leaders.
That is why it is crucial for directors and managers who lead such teams to understand what their employees want and expect from their leaders. Gallup's "Leadership Report", conducted in 52 countries, shows that the four key needs of employees from leaders are hope, trust, compassion, and stability.
These needs are universal – they don't depend on country, demographics, or type of leader. Gallup data shows that when leaders meet these needs, employees are more satisfied, more productive, and less stressed.
How did Gallup get this data?
During the year 2024, they conducted a survey among more than 30,000 adult respondents in 52 countries. In this way, they covered about 76% of the world's adult population and over 86% of the global GDP. The goal was to better understand how people around the world perceive leaders and what influence they have on their lives. Respondents were asked two key questions: first, to name one leader who had the most positive impact on their daily life, and then to name three words that best describe that impact. Based on responses from different countries, cultures, and economies, Gallup identified four universal needs that employees expect their leaders to fulfill.
