Masterindex research: Serbia as predominantly debit card market

The latest Mastercard MasterIndex research, which was conducted in September 2016, underlines that Serbia is a predominantly debit card market with 75% of cardholders owning exclusively a debit card, mostly for buying food (69%) and clothes (37%), while credit cards are mostly used for buying furniture and home appliances. 64% of MasterIndex respondents use their cards at least once a week and they listed ease of use as their main benefit. The new MasterIndex research also surveyed the cardholders’ interest and habits when it comes to making contactless payments and concluded that respondents who pay contactless do so most frequently in supermarkets, at retail stores and at petrol stations.
