The results of the latest MasterIndex Serbia survey show that contactless payments are an integral part of the modern payment experience of Serbian citizens, and that 80% of respondents own a contactless card. Contactless payments are most often made in supermarkets (82% of respondents), at gas stations (43%) and in pharmacies and private healthcare facilities (42%), i.e. in busy commercial locations, where speed and simplicity of payment are important to both the customer and the merchant at the checkout. The speed and ease of use are the most common reasons why users decide to pay contactlessly, which was highlighted by 74 percent of the respondents, and other advantages of this payment method cited by users are security (40%) and control, because the card remains in the user's hands all the time ( 36%).
"For 14 years that they have been available in Serbia, contactless payments have significantly shaped consumer expectations in terms of speed, practicality and simplicity." All Mastercard cards in Serbia are contactless, and the further direction of market development is such that these contactless cards are increasingly used in mobile wallets, that is, for mobile payments. Our users currently have 11 mobile wallets at their disposal in 7 banks, and we believe that this number will continue to grow in the future, in accordance with the clear determination and increasing reliance of the market on modern digital technologies," concluded Jelena Ristić, country manager for Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina at Mastercard.
