The exhibition "Maps" by artist Jelena Borovčanin officially opened
The solo exhibition "Maps" by artist Jelena Borovčanin was officially opened at the Italian Institute of Culture in Belgrade. The exhibition, which will be open until September 20, attracted a large number of visitors who had the opportunity to get acquainted with unique works of art inspired by the rich history of the Balkans, Venice and the Mediterranean.

After the notable success of the collective exhibition "Identities" held in Venice, which represents the starting point for the further development of the unique exhibition "Maps", the artist perfects the use of refined glass from the island of Murano, thereby making a direct connection with the history of Venetian art. The project represents an artistic research which combine the elements of glass fragments and ancient coins which represent the most diverse motifs, symbolizing journeys through time and space.

"With the "Maps" project, I explore rich history through a combination of glass and coins, illuminating the key moments of travel through time and space. For me, Maps are synonymous with travel, through which I continue to build my artistic path. I am extremely happy that this particular exhibition, my 18th in a row, is presented right here, at the Italian Institute of Culture, a place that symbolically connects this whole concept and my artistic expression", said Jelena Borovčanin on the occasion of the official opening of the exhibition.

The curator of the exhibition, Mr Saverio Simi de Burgis, who was also the curator of Jelena's previous exhibition "Identities" in Venice, expressed his view of Jelena Borovčanin's artistic expression: "Identity and tradition are inextricably linked between past and present days, which is the motivation for research in the contemporary context. At the same time, these are the characteristics that I notice in Jelena's work and the works interwoven with these goals."

Through various maps of the Mediterranean, the Balkans and Serbia, Jelena Borovčanin presents and connects the rich and intertwined history of these areas. From Odysseus and Emperor Hadrian, through Roman emperors born in the territory of Serbia, to Stefan the First Crowned, the artist presented these connections in her works to the smallest detail. The "Map" exhibition is additionally enriched with other independent works of the artist in which she "speaks" about the cycle of life through birds, trees, the sun and man, uniting her unusual creativity into a unique artistic experience.

The exhibition is open until September 20, from Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free for all visitors.
