On Thursday, August 28, Neum becomes the world center of underwater film, art, ecology, and sustainable tourism. Neum Underwater Film Festival, a unique international festival dedicated exclusively to underwater themes, opens its doors for its fifth anniversary. This year, it brings together authors from more than 90 countries around the world, brings 24 premieres, 36 films in the official selection, and 15 selected films in the FEST&Val young authors program, a rich accompanying program, panel discussions, and workshops.
Every year, the festival confirms Neum as a bridge between art, ecology, and sustainable tourism and an inspiring meeting point for young talents, renowned authors, and a wonderful audience.
"It is a great honor to open the fifth edition of the Neum Underwater Film Festival, which has been putting Neum on the world map of underwater film for years, a cultural center of world meetings, exchange of opinions, improvement of knowledge, and ecology. The audience will be able to see 24 premieres and a rich accompanying program, and we are especially enriched professionally by the fact that we gather authors, experts, and lovers of the sea and water from all over the world in one place. The Neum Underwater Film Festival is a bridge between young talents and international names, but also a space for learning, inspiration, and networking," says Julijana Mikulić Jurković, executive producer of the festival.
About the festival
Started out of a love for the sea and film, the festival organized by the Standard Association is today one of the few in the world dedicated exclusively to underwater themes. It brings together authors of underwater films, divers, environmental experts, artists, and the audience in one place and encourages the creation of new visions of the relationship between man and the sea, rivers, and lakes. The fifth edition of the festival brings a rich program, affirms young authors and strengthens international cooperation, with an emphasis on education and the development of environmental awareness, which directly affects tourism and the economy, all through art and film.
