The new edition of the Neum Underwater Film Festival starts today

“Underwater films have been reviewed and selected. It has been very difficult to decide which of these exceptional films, which arrived from 86 countries, to include on the first night as finalists. The same goes for all the exceptional films included for showing the best young authors in FEST&VAL projections, starting at 5 pm on August 23. After that, we have the festival opening at 7.30 pm, when the audience and judges will see and evaluate underwater films of the finalist for rewards in 6 categories,” says Ivo Mikulćc, director of Neum Underwater Film Festival.
The festival jury is deliberately made up of people from different professions. Ten members of the jury vote secretly and none of the colleagues know how and for whom they are voting. The jury includes two absolute winners of the Neum Underwater Film Festival in 2021 and 2022, Gareth Bartlett from Great Britain and Clayton Conn from the United States, then Mike Frankel, an American photographer who filmed Woodstock in 1969, etc. Among the jury members is also our Tamara Bekčić.
The audience in the hall votes during the screenings for the Audience Award. The jury awards Best Eco Film, Best Camera, Best Original Music, Best BH Film and Best Film – Grand Prix.
Underwater films, education and collaboration
On August 24, at 12 pm, the workshop named “Sea and people” by author Jurica Gaspar, starts, which permanently educates and connects all independent young filmmakers with professionals, and gives ideas for new underwater films which can be filmed directly in Neum. Udruga Standard has been creating, editing, cooperating and helping cultural events and individuals since 2010. During that mission, a unique Neum Underwater Film Festival was created, which ties film and nature with an unbreakable bond.
Neum Underwater Film Festival Brings creatives and guests from all around the world to Neum, which are spreading a positive image of Neum, Herzegovina and the entire surroundings. The Festival shows that there is cultural tourism – which brings prosperity to everyone.
