The vehicle fleet in the region is aging, but drivers are delaying vehicle replacement
According to a recent survey conducted by MOL Group in six countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the average age of vehicles has reached or exceeded 12 years, and almost half of respondents (48%) drive cars older than ten years. Despite this, the majority of drivers do not consider their vehicles to be "old" - 44% state that their car is "no longer new, but not old either".

Drivers underestimate the age of their cars

Official EU statistics show that the average age of a vehicle is 15 years in Hungary, 15.5 years in Romania, 15.1 years in Slovakia, and 16.2 years in the Czech Republic. However, the personal estimates of drivers in all these countries are significantly lower, indicating that many drivers either underestimate or ignore the actual age of their cars. For example, in Hungary, more than half of respondents (54%) believe that their vehicle is still new or at least not old - although almost two-thirds (62%) drive cars older than 10 years. In Serbia, surveyed users of the MOL Move loyalty program say that the average age of their vehicles is 13.8 years.
