Thousands of new dams threaten the largest river basin in Europe

At a meeting of the International Comission for the Protection of the Danube River, held in Innsbruck, Austria, for the first time, high representatives of the countries the Danube flows through discussed how to prevent harmful impact of the new hydro energy projects on the most important river ecosystems of 800.000 sqare kilometers large Danube basin. Some of the attendees of the conference were WWF - World Wildlife Foundation, the International Association for Danube Research (IAD), the European Fishing Association (EAA), Danubian Forum for Environment (DEF) and many others.
