The World Heritage Committee Demands Canceling of the Petroleum Licenses in the Virunga National Park

The Committee which oversees the declared world cultural heritage area submitted this week, during the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee, the request for the revocation of licenses for oil exploration in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Some of these licenses are currently held by international oil companies, including "Soco International PLC" in the UK and French oil giant "Total SA".
